What's happening

The County is refilling a building it promised to empty.

The County promised that 595 Newark Avenue would be vacated and made available for Courthouse Park once the new Guarini Justice Complex opened and personnel were relocated.

Instead, the County is now proposing to move Brennan Courthouse personnel into 595 for up to two years while Brennan undergoes heating and cooling repairs.

Brennan needs repairs, but the solution should not be to refill a building the County committed to vacating. Every additional month that 595 stays an active courthouse facility pushes the park further into the future, increases potential costs, and puts the project at greater risk.

Dear Chair Romano and Members of the Hudson County Board of County Commissioners,

NO MORE DELAY TO COURTHOUSE PARK. DO NOT MOVE BRENNAN COURTHOUSE PERSONNEL INTO 595 NEWARK AVENUE

Hudson County must keep its commitment to Courthouse Park.

Brennan needs repairs—but the solution should not be to refill a building the County committed to vacating.

The community has already waited years for Courthouse Park. The Guarini Justice Complex opened more than two years later than originally projected, giving residents every reason to question what another “temporary” two-year delay could become.

Every additional month that 595 remains an active courthouse facility pushes the park further into the future, increases potential costs, and puts the project at greater risk.

595 Newark Avenue is not a backup courthouse. It is the property the County committed to vacating for Courthouse Park.

We call on the Hudson County Commissioners to:

  • Reject the proposed move of Brennan personnel into 595 Newark Avenue.
  • Find another safe and appropriate location during Brennan’s repairs.
  • Honor the commitment to vacate 595.
  • Publicly establish a firm timeline for vacating the property.
  • Protect Courthouse Park from further avoidable delays.

NO MORE DELAYS TO COURTHOUSE PARK. VACATE 595. DO NOT MOVE MORE PEOPLE IN.

Sincerely,
[Your name, address and email]
